Once upon a time, in a lush green garden filled with colorful flowers and buzzing bees, lived a tiny snail named Sammy. Sammy was not like the other snails who were content to munch on leaves and hide in their shells when it rained. Sammy had a big dream, a dream that made all the other garden creatures laugh. Sammy dreamed of going to the moon.

Every night, Sammy would peek out from under a large, dewy leaf and gaze up at the shiny, round moon. “One day,” Sammy would whisper to himself, “I will visit you.” The ants would scurry by and giggle. “A snail going to the moon? That’s the silliest thing we’ve ever heard! You’re too slow!” The butterflies would flutter around him and say, “The moon is far, far away. You’ll never make it.” But Sammy just tucked his feelers in and smiled a small snail smile. He knew his dream was big, but his heart was bigger.

One bright morning, Sammy decided it was time to begin his journey. He packed a tiny bag with a drop of dew for water and a speck of a shiny leaf for good luck. He said goodbye to his favorite daisy and started his slow, steady climb. He didn’t climb a rocket or a ladder; Sammy decided the tallest thing in the garden was the old, wise oak tree. “If I can reach the very top branch,” Sammy thought, “I will be closer to the moon than anyone in the garden has ever been.”

The journey up the oak tree was an adventure all by itself. The bark was rough and full of little cracks and crevices. Sometimes, Sammy had to go all the way around a big knot in the wood. Other times, a friendly ladybug would offer him a ride on her back for a little while. During the day, the sun was warm, and Sammy would rest in a patch of moss. At night, he would watch the stars twinkle and the moon glow, which made him feel brave and determined.

Days turned into weeks. Sammy met many creatures on the tree. A grumpy caterpillar told him he was wasting his time. A busy spider, weaving her web, asked him why he didn’t just stay where it was safe and cozy. But Sammy also met a family of cheerful squirrels who cheered him on. “Keep going, little snail!” they chattered. “The view from the top is wonderful!” Their kindness gave Sammy a warm feeling inside and more strength to continue.

One evening, after what felt like a very long time, Sammy finally reached the very last, thin branch at the very top of the great oak tree. He was higher than all the rooftops! The world below looked like a tiny, beautiful painting of green and color. Sammy looked up. The moon seemed so close he felt he could almost touch it. It was big, silvery, and wonderfully bright. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, and it felt like the moon was whispering a hello just to him.

Sammy didn’t feel sad that he hadn’t landed on the moon. He felt incredibly happy and proud. He had followed his dream with all his slow and steady heart. He had been brave when others laughed, and he had never given up. As he sat on the branch, watching the moon, he realized something wonderful. His journey *was* the adventure. The courage, the friendship of the squirrels, the beautiful sights along the way—that was the real magic. The moon was a beautiful dream that made the journey special.

Sammy spent the night there, telling the moon all about his trip. When the first rays of the sun painted the sky pink and orange, Sammy carefully began his slow journey back down. He wasn’t in a hurry. He had a wonderful story to tell. When he finally reached the garden floor, all the creatures gathered around. They weren’t laughing anymore. They listened with wide eyes as Sammy described the view from the top of the world and how the moon had smiled at him. Sammy the snail became known as the bravest, most adventurous snail in the whole garden, proving that even the smallest and slowest creature can have the biggest dreams and the most wonderful journeys. And every night, when he looked at the moon, he knew a little secret: it was shining just for him, a friend he had visited in his own special way.
