Once upon a time, in a sunny land far, far away, there lived a young ostrich named Ollie. Ollie had long, fluffy feathers, big brown eyes, and legs that could run faster than the wind. But even though Ollie was fast, he was very shy and often scared of new things. He would hide his head in the sand whenever he saw something unfamiliar, just like the other ostriches said he should.

One morning, Ollie woke up to find a tiny, colorful egg sitting right next to his nest. It wasn’t his egg, and it was glowing with soft golden light. Ollie looked around, but no one was there. He gently nudged the egg with his beak, and it wobbled. “Oh dear,” said Ollie. “Where did you come from?”

Just then, a small voice came from inside the egg. “Please, kind ostrich, help me find my way back home. I’m lost.”

Ollie was very surprised. He had never heard an egg talk before! He peeked around, but he was all alone. “Who are you?” he asked.

“I’m a baby dragon,” said the voice. “I fell from the sky when I was practicing my flying, and I don’t know where my family is. Will you help me?”

Ollie felt a flutter of fear. A dragon! But the voice sounded so small and scared. He remembered how it felt to be lost and scared, and he knew he had to help. “I’ll try,” he said softly.

So Ollie put the egg on his back, and off he went. First, they went to the wise old tortoise, who lived by the big rock. “Do you know where the dragon’s home is?” asked Ollie.

The tortoise slowly raised his head and said, “I have seen dragons flying to the Crystal Mountains far to the east. But the journey is long and full of dangers.”

Ollie gulped, but he was determined. He thanked the tortoise and continued on his way. He walked through the tall grass and over the sandy dunes. The sun was hot, but Ollie kept going.

Suddenly, a sly fox appeared from behind a bush. “Where are you going, little ostrich?” he asked with a wink.

“I’m taking this egg to the Crystal Mountains,” said Ollie.

The fox laughed. “You’ll never make it! The mountains are too far, and the path is full of traps. But I can take you there for a tiny fee.”

Ollie knew the fox was tricky. He remembered his mother’s words: “Always trust your instincts.” So he shook his head and said, “No, thank you. I’ll find my own way.”

The fox frowned and slunk away, muttering under his breath.

Ollie continued walking. As the sun began to set, he came to a deep river with fast-flowing water. The egg on his back started to wobble. “Oh no!” cried the egg. “I can’t swim!”

Ollie looked at the river and felt scared. But then he saw some big stones poking out of the water. He took a deep breath and carefully hopped from stone to stone, balancing the egg with his feathers. Step by step, he made it across.

On the other side, he rested and looked at the egg. “Are you okay?” he asked.

“I’m fine, thanks to you,” said the egg. “You’re very brave.”

Ollie felt proud, even though he was still a little scared.

The next day, they came to a dark forest. The trees were so tall they blocked out the sun. Strange noises came from all around. Ollie’s feathers trembled. “I don’t want to go in there,” he whispered.

But the egg said, “We have to go through it. We’re almost there. I can feel it.”

So Ollie took a deep breath and stepped into the forest. It was cool and shadowy, and vines hung down like snakes. He walked carefully, listening to every sound. Suddenly, a big, hairy spider dropped down in front of him! Ollie jumped back, almost dropping the egg.

“Hello,” said the spider. “What are you doing in my forest?”

Ollie was very frightened, but he stood his ground. “I’m taking this egg to the Crystal Mountains. Please don’t hurt us.”

The spider looked at the egg and then at Ollie. “I’ve never seen a dragon egg,” it said. “They are very rare. But I know the way. Follow me, and I’ll lead you safely through.”

Ollie and the egg followed the spider, who was actually quite kind. They passed through the dark part of the forest and came out into a sunny meadow.

At the edge of the meadow, the spider pointed to a distant mountain that sparkled in the sunlight. “There it is,” said the spider. “The Crystal Mountains. You’re almost there.”

Ollie thanked the spider and hurried on. Now he could see the mountain, but it was still far away. He ran as fast as he could, feeling the wind in his feathers. The egg bounced gently on his back, cheering him on.

Finally, after a long run, Ollie reached the foot of the Crystal Mountains. They were tall and glittering with all the colors of the rainbow. But how would he find the baby dragon’s family?

Just then, a shadow passed overhead. Ollie looked up and saw a big, beautiful dragon flying in the sky. It circled down and landed softly in front of him.

The dragon had golden scales and kind eyes. “Are you the one who brought my egg?” she asked.

Ollie nodded, too nervous to speak. He carefully lifted the egg off his back and placed it on the ground. The egg cracked, and out popped a tiny baby dragon with bright green scales.

“Mama!” cried the baby dragon, running to her mom.

The mother dragon turned to Ollie and smiled. “Thank you, brave ostrich. You have saved my child. How can I ever repay you?”

Ollie felt warm inside. He didn’t want any reward. “I was just happy to help,” he said.

But the mother dragon insisted. She blew a soft, shimmering breath over Ollie, and suddenly his feathers sparkled like the stars. “Now you have the heart of a true hero,” she said. “Remember, being brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared. It means you face your fears and do what’s right.”

Ollie walked home with a new confidence. He no longer felt so scared of new things. When he saw a strange shadow, he remembered his adventure and stood tall. He knew that inside him was the heart of a brave ostrich.

And whenever the other ostriches asked why his feathers sparkled, he would tell them the story of the baby dragon and the Crystal Mountains. And from that day on, Ollie was known as the bravest ostrich in all the land.

The end.
