Once upon a time, in a lush green forest by a sparkling blue river, lived a little kingfisher named Kiki. Kiki had bright blue feathers that shimmered in the sunlight and a long, sharp beak. He loved to fly over the river, watching the fish swim below. But Kiki was afraid of diving into the water. Every time he tried, his heart would beat fast and he would stop.
One day, Kiki was sitting on a branch feeling sad. His friend, a wise old turtle named Tilly, swam up to him. “Why are you so sad, Kiki?” asked Tilly. “I want to catch fish like the other kingfishers, but I am scared,” said Kiki. Tilly smiled and said, “Courage is not about not being scared. Courage is about doing what you are afraid to do. You can start with small steps.”
Kiki thought about Tilly’s words. He decided to try. First, he practiced diving into the shallow end of the river where the water was only up to his belly. Splash! He did it! He felt a little braver. Next, he tried diving a bit deeper. Each time, he felt more confident. Soon, he was diving into the deep part of the river and catching small fish.
But one day, a storm came. The wind blew hard and the rain poured. Kiki took shelter in a hollow tree. After the storm, he saw that a little rabbit’s home was flooded. The rabbit was crying on a rock. Kiki wanted to help, but the river was rough. He remembered Tilly’s words about courage. He took a deep breath and flew to the rabbit. “Hop on my back,” said Kiki. The rabbit climbed on, and Kiki flew him to higher ground. The rabbit thanked Kiki and said, “You are so brave!”
Kiki felt proud. He realized that being brave wasn’t just about diving for fish; it was about helping others even when you’re scared. From that day on, Kiki became the bravest kingfisher in the forest. He helped many animals in need. And whenever he felt scared, he remembered: courage is doing what you are afraid to do.
That night, as Kiki snuggled in his nest, he looked up at the stars and smiled. He knew that true bravery comes from the heart. And the forest animals all loved the brave little kingfisher who taught them that courage can be found in the smallest of creatures.
